LuNa Smelter receives the ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015
Kigali, 20 February 2020 – LuNa Smelter is proud to announce that it has been awarded the sustainable, environmentally responsible ISO 14001:2015 standard and the new quality management ISO 9001:2015
The certificates were issued by Bureau Veritas (BV) Certification holding SAS-UK Branch, compromising that LuNa is fully compliant with the highest standards of quality, environmental responsibility, and other characteristics of world-class organizations’ operations across their materials, products, processes, and services.
During the commissioning, LuNa Smelter made the strategic decision to implement organisational guidance to achieve all of ISO’s certification requirements in these categories. LuNa quality team spent the last six months building up quality management principles, including a strong focus on customers and the involvement of high-level organisation management, a process approach, and an ongoing improvement of the process.
LuNa Smelter has also identified the environmental impact of its operations adhering to regulatory requirements including proper handling of hazardous materials and managing effects of silica sand emission and arsine gas generation.
Moreover, LuNa Smelter contributes to a significant limitation of the CO2 footprint, achieved due to the processing of raw materials in Rwanda, avoiding overseas shipment of cassiterite – a cause of harmful CO2 emission during transportation.
“In line with its sustainability strategy, LuNa Smelter is striving to minimize its environmental footprint by increasing energy efficiency and continuously improving measures, taken to protect people and the environment,” said Prof. Dr Radosław Miśkiewicz, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of LuNa Smelter.
He adds:
“I am extremely proud of our team for the achievement, which proves theirs and the company’s commitment to ensuring quality and providing the best possible service to our clients. We are dedicated to constant improvement and development, achieving and maintaining that ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 accreditations ensure we have the processes and systems in place for this.”
